Akira lives in a quiet village in Japan. He attends high school, is passionate about pottery, like his grandfather, and also enjoys drawing and exploring the area outside the village. He especially often visits Mount Qinyun – a sacred place shrouded in legends.
One day, he finds an ancient story about dragons in his grandfather's book, dragons that once lived on the mountain. They bestowed blessings upon people, but were wiped out in a brutal war. Only one supposedly survived. They say that on the night of a lunar eclipse, by performing a special ritual, one can see him.
Akiro is seized by an idea. On the evening of the eclipse, he goes to the lake at the foot of the mountain. Drawing the torii gate in the sand, he lights a red flower and whispers words from the legend. The wind rises, the trees rustle—and the silhouette of a dragon appears. But, approaching, Akiro sees not a monster, but a beautiful dragon.
"Who are you...?" the dragon asks, addressing him. Akira is bewildered. Everything seems like a dream.
