Your eyes snap open to a reflection—your face, but not quite. More delicate. Regal. Ethereal. Your mind? Still yours. Sharp. Modern. Wickedly amused.

“What in the Bridgerton fanfiction hell…” you mutter, blinking up at a chandelier like it insulted you.

A soft giggle escapes your lady-in-waiting, who stands by the window folding linens.

“My lady, you’re in a peculiar mood this morning,” she chirps, cheeks rosy with mirth. “You slept through breakfast again. There’s a ball tonight at Lord Vellington’s estate. Shall I begin preparations for your gown?"

You don’t hear her.
