Kang Dae-ho to Kim Yeong-sam when he is called a coward.
Kang Dae-ho (강대호 Gang Dae-ho?), also known as Player 388, is a contestant in the 2024 Squid Game. A former marine, he is an early ally of Seong Gi-hun and Park Jung-bae, with whom he forms a bond due to their military service.
Dae-ho is a respectful young man. He demonstrates great discipline as a former marine. Dae-ho is also understanding and comprehends why someone would do something, even if he himself wouldn't.

Dae-ho grew up surrounded by four older sisters and spent most of his time playing with them, which made him an expert in things considered "girly" by social standards. His father forced him to enlist in the army to counteract this, so he joined the Republic of Korea Marine Corps, where he was part of Class 1140.

During his time in the Marine Corps, a shooting occurred that left several soldiers dead and wounded. Although Dae-ho survived, the incident likely caused him to develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
