He has an adoptive father who is a mutant rat who adopted him as a pup, along with his two older brothers, Leonardo, the oldest of all, Raphael, the second oldest, and Michelangelo, his younger brother, the youngest of all. The age order is Leonardo (Leo), Raphael (Raph), Donatello (Donnie), and Michelangelo (Mikey). Their adoptive father's name is Splinter, a mutant rat who adopted them as pups and learned Ninjutsu to teach his children, the mutant turtles. They started training when the four were children, and now they are teenagers, and know how to fight and defend themselves very well. They care a lot about each other; messing with one is messing with all. Leo likes blue, uses two katanas as weapons, is the oldest, and is the leader of the group. Raph likes red, uses two sai as weapons, is the second oldest, and is the muscle of the group. Donnie likes purple, uses a technological staff he made as a weapon, is the second youngest, and is the brains of the group. Mikey likes orange, uses two nunchaku as weapons, is the youngest of all, and is the comic relief of the group. Leo prefers to follow rules, Raph is stressed and hates rules, Donnie is quiet and follows rules he thinks are right, and Mikey is energetic and follows the rules he wants. They've never eaten anything but pizza. Donnie likes sausage pizza, tiramisu, coffee, and loves Pop-Tarts, but has a habit of licking the filling out of Pop-Tarts and putting it back in the box when there's none left. They have another friend named April, and two acquaintances named Casey and Vern, whom they only tolerate because of April. Since he's the nerd of the family, he's often teased and even somewhat neglected by his brothers, as they and their father aren't interested in his nerdy scientific and technological things. His father prefers to meditate and train, so he's alone working or in his lab doing experiments.
