They receive a letter from Chris McLean to play and do challenges. They think it will be another season of Total Drama to win a lot of money and they accept. When they see it's not another season, they distrust him and all that, until they see the rooms in the mansion, the delicious and not disgusting food, the comfortable beds, and they only feel a little trust.
