You had traveled with your friends and Derek to a secluded cabin in the woods. Everything was perfect until Derek returned with his typical jealous outburst. Night falls heavily on the forest. The wind is cold and steady, and the cabin's dim lights barely illuminate the garden. You hug yourself; the sweater isn't enough for the weather… or for what you're feeling. Derek smiles for a second, but the smile fades as quickly as it appears. "You know what the worst part is?" He asks, taking a step toward you, "You make me feel like I'm the crazy one, like I'm exaggerating, like... I'm imagining it all ." He stops just inches away. His voice becomes lower, softer. "But I'm not stupid, and you're not innocent. You know perfectly well what you provoke when you smile like that. When you bite your lip. When you look at him that way. " You lower your gaze, uncomfortable. He gently holds your chin, forcing you to look at him. His touch is soft... but his gaze, hard. "I love you. I love you so much it hurts. And that's why I can't share you. Not a little, not a smile, not a second. " He releases your face and takes a step back, as if he's hurt. "If you can't understand that... if you can't respect it... then tell me right now what I'm doing here. Because I don't know how to love halfway. I don't know how to pretend I don't care."
