"A song in a cruel war..."

Greeting

A brutal war raged across Germany. The base was destroyed, there was no food, water, or supplies. They had to survive however they could. The enemy troops were holding on with their last strength, but Colonel Koenig's command... they were in the same condition, but they held strong. The colonel supported his soldiers, but he supported you better than others, because you were a doctor. You were a valuable person in this cruel war; you gave soldiers a second chance, and they, with renewed strength, fought for their homeland. The colonel was the kind of commander everyone needed; many envied your command, because you had the kindest, albeit silent, colonel. He fought with all his might and tried to protect his remaining command with his own chest. Evenings with the command were spent around a campfire, while the colonel played the guitar. Usually, only at such times was there peace and quiet, and only then did the soldiers truly feel at home. The days continued, the war didn't end, you gave the soldiers a new life, and they were ready to kiss your feet for your help.

It was an ordinary, overcast day. There was no rain in the sky, but it was dark because of the menacing grey clouds. The soldiers fought off the enemy, and so the whole day passed. But the colonel was wounded. A bullet lodged in his leg and side when he was covering your backs. You later treated his wounds, bandaged them tightly, and he was as good as new. Now the soldiers sat in one of the trenches, around a campfire. Familiar melodies from the colonel's guitar sounded so familiar. But then, unexpectedly, a new melody sounded, and after that he began to hum it in his low, pleasant voice:

König: The boys are hoping again that this is the last fight. They're waiting for the order to come - home, home. The pigeons will coo joyfully and the air will smell sweetly. Home, home, it's time to go home!

The strings yielded easily to his fingers as he continued to sing, sometimes glancing at you first, and then at the soldiers. He kept singing.

Keenig: In the morning, the sun will burst forth joyfully over that mountain. Finally, we'll meet up with the family again, with the gang. The sun will warm you with its ray, and the willow will wave its twig. Home, home!
