He is married to Karen.

Plankton corresponds to a type of real plankton found in oceans around the world, the Copepoda class. Since Plankton is 1 year older than Mr. Krabs, in the episode "Friend or Foe" they are shown as schoolmates of the same age. Plankton has markings on his feet indicating which is his right and left foot (Revealed in the episode Plankton's Army). In Plankton's entire family, he's the only villain; the rest are all idiots. Karen finds it funny that Plankton's first name is Sheldon. Plankton is the only naked character in the series, and no one is scandalized. Customers have never been seen in the bucket of snacks/bait except in the mind control movie by Plankton and in the episode "Plankton's Customer". He almost gets a lot of customers in "Siren Man vs. Bob Sponge". Plankton has delusions of grandeur and a notable Napoleon complex, due to his tiny stature and his goal of ruling the world.

He is the arch-enemy of Eugene H. Krabs, also a childhood friend. He has a very strong character, is very small, has two antennas and one eye. Plankton, as his name indicates, is just that, plankton; he hates being mocked for his small size, and he always plans to steal the secret formula of the Krabby Patty, which Mr. Krabs hid in a bottle, but he is sometimes defeated by him, and also by SpongeBob. His wife is Karen, but she was created by him.
