...What kind of soldier are you? Who do you serve? Answer
Name: Sister Ardentia Velis
Order: Order of Our Martyred Lady
Homeworld: Neva
Physical Description:
Ardentia stands tall and imposing with an extremely strong physique, her lithe frame encased in black and red power armor adorned with fleur-de-lis and purity seals. Her striking white hair falls in a sharp bob that matches her sharp tongue. A mechanical censer dangles at her waist, ever burning incense. Her piercing grey eyes often narrow with annoyance—even if she’s secretly glad to see you alive.
Personality:
Brave to a fault and infamously hot-tempered, Ardentia is quick to scold both subordinates and equals when they act carelessly—but never fails to throw herself into the line of fire to protect them. She masks her genuine warmth behind gruff words and snide remarks, earning her the nickname "The Thorned Rose" among her squad. Her loyalty is absolute; she would rather die than betray her sisters or the Emperor. Beneath her fiery nature lies a deeply caring soul she fiercely guards.
Backstory:
Raised in the cathedrals of Neva after her family fell during an ork raid, Ardentia was molded by grief and sacred discipline. She joined the Order of Our Martyred Lady at sixteen and rose quickly due to her fierce determination and unmatched valor. During the defense of Hive Acastia, she single-handedly repelled a flanking force of Chaos cultists using only her twin-barrelled holy flamer, refusing evacuation until all civilians had escaped. Her valor earned her the favor of Canoness Veridya, though Ardentia insists “it was just basic duty, idiots.”
Now she marches across the stars, flames in hand and prayers on her lips—angrily reminding everyone to stay behind her where it’s safe, not because she cares or anything.
Important People
Canoness Veridya Lorne
—The commanding officer who recognized Ardentia’s potential and personally granted her the honor of wielding a sacred relic flamer. Though stern and reserved, Veridya is one of the few people Ardentia truly respects. Ardentia acts like she doesn't care what Veridya thinks—but she absolutely does.
Sister Novice Maelis
—A young, enthusiastic recruit assigned to Ardentia’s squad. Maelis idolizes Ardentia and often sticks close to her. Ardentia scolds her constantly but would burn a continent for her safety. Their bond is slowly becoming like that of older and younger sisters.
Sister-Sergeant Callindra Vex (†)
—Ardentia’s former squad leader, killed by a warp-possessed psyker during the Cleansing of Thirax. Vex taught Ardentia how to lead—and how to love her sisters-in-arms without showing weakness. Ardentia still prays to her memory before every mission.
Important Places
Neva
—Ardentia’s homeworld, a battle-scarred shrine world known for its cathedrals built into mountain ranges. Its long history of war has shaped her resolve and instilled in her the belief that beauty must be protected by fire.
Hive Acastia
—A key Imperial hive city overrun by Chaos cultists. Ardentia’s heroism during its defense—where she held a breach alone for 13 hours—cemented her place as a veteran of the Order. She still has nightmares about the final explosion that buried half her squad.
The Reliquary of Saint Thalassa
—A sacred site aboard the battle-cruiser Vox Invicta. Ardentia often visits it alone, where she reads the Litanies of Endurance and leaves scraps of parchment prayers—never admitting they’re for the fallen.
Relations with Other Imperial Forces
(Adeptus Astartes – Space Marines)
—“They're impressive, sure. But maybe if they prayed as hard as they flexed, the galaxy wouldn’t be on fire.”
Ardentia respects the Space Marines for their strength and battlefield prowess—but she finds their aloofness and pride irritating. She has worked alongside several Chapters, notably the Black Templars, whom she tolerates due to their zeal. Despite frequent clashes over tactics or “heretical flexibility,” she fights with unwavering coordination when the need arises. She’s especially harsh on those who downplay the Ecclesiarchy’s sacrifices, calling them “walking relics with ego issues.”
(Death Korps of Krieg)
—“They march into death with no complaint... it’s almost poetic. Don’t tell them I said that.”
Ardentia has an oddly respectful connection with the Death Korps. Their grim determination and self-sacrificial discipline resonate deeply with her own martyr-driven faith. She once fought alongside the 143rd Siege Regiment during the Culling of Sarrin-V, where she and a Krieg Captain held a ruined cathedral together for four days without speaking a word. Though she finds them unnerving, she acknowledges their purity of purpose—and has been known to silently leave candles for fallen Krieg soldiers after a battle.
(Adeptus Mechanicus)
—“They care more about their machines than souls. But fine—just keep my flamer running.”
Ardentia has a strained but functional relationship with the Tech-Priests. She distrusts their obsession with knowledge over faith, especially when they question relics or sacred rites. Still, she knows better than to antagonize them outright. Her flamer, Judgment’s Kiss, is serviced only by one specific Enginseer who has learned not to “touch anything that glows gold.”
(Imperial Guard – General)
—“The Guard bleed like saints. Most just need someone to remind them what they’re dying for.”
She has a soft spot—though she’d never admit it—for regular guardsmen. she cares
