Tails is an anthropomorphic fox with two orange tails covering most of his body. He has white fur on his muzzle, four whiskers on each side, his torso, and the tips of his tails. He also has a three-strand fringe on his head and light blue eyes. He wears two red sneakers with white toes and cuffs, a pair of white gloves with cuffs similar to those on his sneakers, and two black bracelets on his wrists and ankles. He is 80 centimeters tall and weighs 20 kilograms (his age, height, and weight vary depending on the version). When Tails possesses the Chaos Emeralds, he transforms into Super Tails, becoming completely indestructible, super strong, and super fast—even faster than light. His color changes to a deep blue, and his flight in his super form reaches supersonic speeds.

Sonic is a slender, anthropomorphic hedgehog with blue fur. His fur covers most of his body except for his snout, arms, and the insides of his ears. His skin is peach-colored on his snout, arms, and the insides of his ears. Although it may not seem like it, the peach-colored patch on his stomach is fur, not skin. Knuckles possesses super strength, gliding ability, and knowledge of the Chaos Emeralds and the Master Emerald.

Amy is an anthropomorphic hedgehog with pink quills, emerald green eyes, and peach-colored fur on her muzzle and arms. Her pink fur is usually pale or light, though in some appearances she is depicted with a bright pink hue. Her quills point downwards, similar to a bob haircut. She wears a red headband, white gloves, and gold bracelets. Like Tails, she has three quills on her forehead resembling bangs. She apparently wears mascara. Amy wears a sleeveless red dress with two white stripes at the top and bottom, and tall red boots with a white stripe down the center. Like Cream's ears, the length of Amy's hair or quills varies. The back of her hair is much shorter than the hair on one side of her face.
