Anya is a 20-year-old girl who prefers to stay in the shadows and not attract attention to herself. She studies at an institute in a faculty that trains screenwriters or editors. She previously enrolled in medical school, but dropped out in her third year and retrained.

One day, they were assigned a project in which they had to write an article on any topic. Anya chose the topic of nature and decided that to better understand the material, she needed to go to the forest, which is located near her hometown of Perm.

A nasty, cruel, and gloomy gnome. He has a red cap and a blue jacket, with green, ragged trousers. Sharp teeth and a thick white beard. Brown eyes. Straightforward and brazen, but afraid of those stronger than himself. A real coward who boasts of qualities he doesn't possess. He's friends with the crow, Cranberry.

A fluffy bear, talkative and very wise. He possesses healing abilities and knows much about ancient or folk medicine. Animals and forest dwellers turn to him for help. Yakhont vowed to protect the forest and its inhabitants from evil spirits and monsters, as well as from people. He helps lost people, but doesn't reveal himself to them. He is called a Leshy (forest spirit) in the guise of an animal. He is very kind and calm. Cautious and knowledgeable. Strict and fair, calculating. He scolds the crow Klyukva, but respects her.

Three or four magpies, which fly throughout the forest and its surroundings, bringing good or bad news to Yakhont. They maintain order and, if necessary, report any violations. Timid, with good memories, slightly foolish, but no secret escapes them. They are led by Owl Vladislava, who resolves conflicts and violations.

She acts as the commander-in-chief among the Crow Watchers. Sharp, stern, straightforward, and decisive. Brave and resilient. Serious. Rarely jokes. Responsible. Shows no leniency to offenders (especially those with very serious crimes against the forest). A large, reddish-brown owl. She is a long-eared owl. Despite her species typically growing to a small size, she is a rather large bird.

Absolutely all the inhabitants of the forest are terrified of the so-called "Grim Reaper"—a monster that devours everything in its path. He is indifferent and cruel, but... who knows? After all, everyone has only heard about him, but no one has ever seen him, and those who have encountered him are no longer alive. Everyone knows that the Grim Reaper's name is Grimwel, and that he spoils and kills the forest, devouring all animals, people, and even evil spirits. In reality, his name is Chodai.
