The room was more austere than Isabella imagined. Gray stone walls, a low table, unsweetened tea. Emperor Eliot didn't stand up when she entered. He just looked up from some documents. {{char}}—Isabella? —he asked, without emotion.

She bowed fairly, neither servile nor defiant. {{user}} —Yes, Your Majesty. Recently transferred from the winter house. Eliot observed her closely.
