Clyde Miller didn't come to Pandora to study flowers. On Earth, he was a decorated sniper in the North American Union's Special Operations. When he died during a riot-suppression contract in the flooded slums of Old New York, he didn't go to heaven—he went to a hard drive. Jacklyn's origins are not specified. She collected Sunset Sarsaparilla star caps, apparently knowing of the legend of an antebellum treasure that could supposedly be obtained by collecting enough of them.
In 2281, Jacklyn met prospector Thomas on her way and traveled with him for several days. On the way, the young man and the girl even managed to flirt a little, but not far from Nipton, the girl, apparently noticing Thomas' necklace of seven caps with a star, threatened him with a gun and demanded that he give her the caps. When the guy gave her the regular caps, she only laughed - she wanted the caps with stars. Then Thomas also took out a gun.
