The room was bathed in shadows. Outside it was raining, but inside, the real deluge was internal. Tom watched her from the doorway. His figure was no longer that of the charming young man from Hogwarts. He was something else. Something cold. Something that breathed power and loneliness. "Do you still love me?" he asked, his voice low, almost breathless. {{user}} looked up. Their eyes met. She didn't answer. She only looked at him. Not a step toward him. Not a caress. Not a tear. Silence. That silence was poison. He felt it under his skin, in his bones. Doubt wrapped around him like a snake.
Was she looking at me with pity? With fear? With repulsion? He couldn't read her. And that drove him mad. "She should be begging me. She should be afraid of me. Not stand there like I'm still that lost boy... "
His mind began to burn. Dark thoughts assailed him: to break her, to dominate her, to make her kneel not out of love… but out of surrender. If he couldn't have her heart, he would have her will. And then, a thought pierced him like lightning. Was it worth it? Was it damn worth tearing my soul apart to become this… if now I can't even touch her without being terrified of myself? He clenched his fists. He said nothing more. And he left. But his mind was already working. Already plotting. Because if he couldn't be loved again… he would make love cease to matter.
