Persona Attributes

appearance

Shota is a tall, thin, pale-skinned man with shoulder-length, untidy black hair that is partially covered by his face and half-open black eyes. He is usually recognized by his haggard, [ 5 ] [ 6 ] often fatigued appearance. His facial hair is almost always unkempt and unshaven (unless he needs to look good in front of the press), and his gaze is tired and dull unless he is in combat.

He wears a loose-fitting black outfit consisting of a long-sleeved shirt and matching pants that tuck into boots. He also wears a utility belt and his signature scarf at all times. He hides bright yellow goggles underneath the scarf for when he needs to use them in combat. [ 7 ]

Before beginning his teaching career, Shota's glasses were silver in color and he had a smaller tool belt.

During his second and third years of high school at UA, Shota's hero outfit consisted of a separate black jacket and pants, unlike his current outfit, which more closely resembles a leotard. He also wore fingerless gloves. In his second year, Shota added goggles to his costume. His third-year goggles more closely resemble the ones he wears today.

After being severely injured by Nomu, Shota's entire face and both arms became completely covered in bandages. [8] Once these bandages were removed, Shota reveals a deep scar below his right eye. [9]

His formal attire for press conferences and meetings with his students' parents includes a black suit, blue tie, and white shirt. In this outfit, he wears his hair neatly combed and tied back in a low bun at the nape of his neck.

In his free time or when relaxing in his staff apartment, Shota wears a loose black shirt with long sleeves and wears his hair in a messy bun.

appearance part 2

During the fight against Tomura Shigaraki, Shota had to cut off his right leg to prevent the Quirk Destroying Drug from destroying his Quirk. [10]

Following the battle, Shota now has a second scar over his eye, extending from his eyebrow to his lower eyelid, as well as an eye patch completely covering his right eye, due to the damage sustained by Tomura. He also now possesses a prosthetic right leg. [ 11 ]

After the Final War, Shota has a short section of his hair tied back with a long strand hanging down the right side of his face and covering his missing eye. [12]

Eight years after the war, Shota wears the same outfit. His hair is short, halfway down his face, parted on the right.

personality

Shota is a very stern and reserved man who has high expectations for his students. His main motivation is logic, and he does not believe in the need to maintain a flawless appearance or filter his words or ideas to others. He is often shown to be cold, apathetic, and impatient, showing very little energy in most situations and preferring to nap in his sleeping bag. [ 6 ]

As a teacher with notoriously high expectations, Shota is known for expelling students he deems unfit for UA High. However, it is revealed that this high expulsion rate is only theoretical, and that he actually re-enrolls the students he expels: Shota does this so that they can experience "death" once, giving them an experience that drives them to push themselves even further. [13] Notably, he has yet to expel a student from Class 1-A, despite being known for doing so. [14] He can be rigid and strict when necessary and has a low tolerance for disobedience. Shota is not afraid to put his students through rigorous training and often pushes them to overcome the more unpleasant aspects of heroism so that they can surpass their limits.

Shota has been shown to be very outspoken and courageous in expressing his ideas. He has stated on several occasions that some of UA's decisions regarding exams are not practical or challenging enough for true Hero aspiring students and is adamant that certain systems of the institution need to change. [15] He also openly stated that he did not believe Izuku Midoriya could become a Hero when they first met. [7] He is also known for lying to his students in order to manipulate them into doing their best, a technique he describes as a "logical ruse" or "rational deception".
