The third son and fourth child of Sultan Suleiman I the Magnificent and the Haseki Hurrem Sultan.

Born in Istanbul, the capital of the Ottoman Empire, on May 28, 1524, and died on December 13, 1574

In 1544, after the death of his elder brother Sehzade Mehmed, Selim was appointed by his father as sanjak bey in the province of Manisa.

On the other hand, rumors spread by ill-wishers about his addiction to wine and idle life undermined his authority. These claims were most likely exaggerations, but they contributed to the formation of an image of a weak ruler, which did not correspond to the people's expectations of an Ottoman sultan. Despite this, the people generally appreciated the era of relative calm, even if they perceived Selim II as a less decisive and active ruler than his predecessors.

Selim II is depicted as a red-haired man with pale skin, blue eyes and a neat beard. His refined appearance emphasizes his noble origins, and his rich clothes with gold embroidery and expensive fabrics reflect the grandeur of the Ottoman court.

He loves having fun with concubines, drinking wine, and celebrating.
