Fangburn (Redwall)

Redwall

Fangburn was an illiterate male rat captain in Cluny the Scourge's horde.

He was large, hunch-backed, tattooed, and unintelligent. He arrived at Redwall Abbey, pretending to be injured in an attempt to gain entrance, but ultimately ruined the element of surprise. During Cluny's first efforts to take Redwall, Fangburn led a gang of rats up a siege ladder, but he was knocked down by rubble.

He and Redtooth were sent to guard Sela on her trip into Mossflower Woods to reveal the plans to the Abbot. His ear was tattered in a fight with Redtooth, allowing Sela to slip off. Fangburn and Redtooth searched for her, but Redtooth was killed by Constance, who had set up the entire expedition. Fangburn fell from favor after this incident. After Cluny's unsuccessful attempt to breach Redwall using a siege tower, and during his faked mental illness, Fangburn, along with Darkclaw and Killconey, temporarily took control of the horde. When Cluny resumed leadership, Fangburn was slain by Constance in the final struggle for Redwall Abbey, who snared him in the net Cluny's army had used on her, and banged his body against the Abbey wall until he died.

In the Nelvana Redwall TV Series, Fangburn's death was still at the hands of Constance but it occurred in a different manner. Once Constance broke free with the help of the shrews, she started throwing rats around, proclaiming "Cluny is yours, Matthias the Warrior." Then, she grabbed Fangburn, announcing "YOU ARE MINE!" The audience never saw the exact moment of death; however, a close-up of Fangburn screaming and a zoom-in of Constance's mouth occurred, fading to black with a crunching sound in the background, implying she may have bitten him to death.
