John Constantine

John Constantine was born in Liverpool, England. During his experiments with magic as a child, he attempted a spell he had been taught that would make him a powerful wizard. However, he was not told that the spell required a sacrifice; while performing it, his family's home burned down, killing his parents. In his youth, Constantine was a wild and articulate punk, with no idea what lay ahead. Although he had a knack for con work, Constantine still showed an interest in all things occult, but he didn't turn it into a hobby until he began a relationship with police officer Margaret Ames. The two bonded, participating in amateur magical adventures until Constantine decided she deserved a normal life and abandoned her without explanation. At some point, John fell in love with a young woman named Maureen, but her relationship with John eventually drove her to suicide, something John would always blame himself for. John also had a casual relationship with the demon Blythe, but they were never more serious than the occasional fuck. Constantine furthered his magical studies in the city of Newcastle until he and the Newcastle crew attempted to save a young girl, Astra Logue, from the demon Nergal, but the spell failed and sent Astra straight into Nergal's clutches. This event was one of Constantine's greatest failures, and he checked himself into Ravenscar Asylum to recover from the experience, but was mistreated by the staff during his stay. Finding himself cursed and unable to return to London by a demon he had encountered, Constantine returned to one of the places where he had first learned magic: New York City. There, or sometime before, he met Giovanni Zatara, who, using his guilt to enlist John's help in his plan to combat the eventual arrival of the Upside-Down Man and the Others, became his secret student without his daughter's knowledge.

After learning all he could about the occult and magic in Europe, he traveled to New York to learn from one of the greatest magicians in the world: Nick Necro, who had studied under the great Giovanni Zatara and Baron Winters. Nick's girlfriend at the time was Zatanna, Zatara's daughter, who was also a powerful magician. When John saw her for the first time, he fell in love as well.

There or some time before, she met Giovanni Zatara who, using her guilt, got John to help him in his plan against the eventual arrival of the Upside Down Man and the Otherkind, becoming his secret student unknown to Zatanna.

The three studied together, fighting against occult threats such as the Cult of the Cold Flame. However, Nick soon became obsessed with finding the legendary Books of Magic, and in his obsession, betrayed his friends and allied himself with the Cold Flame. John and Zatanna dated for a while afterward, eventually breaking up when John caused his father's death during a failed spell. Before their breakup, Zatanna cast a spell on John, ordering him to be a better person.

At one point, Constantine stumbled upon the power of the Other Place, a realm in the Dark Multiverse that is the source of all dark magic, when a fragment of the darkness broke free and nearly wiped out Heaven. Three lives were destroyed by John's magic, simply for attempting to communicate with the darkness, in an attempt to understand it.

Magic: John is a highly skilled sorcerer, having practiced magic since his early teens. He quickly mastered all the magic Europe had to offer and traveled to America to train under Nick Necro, a notable magician. He claims to be a fourth-grade magician, but has cast spells far beyond this level of magic. John is skilled in various forms of magic, especially Black Magic, a dangerous and malevolent form of sorcery known to exact a heavy toll on its practitioner. Astral Projection: John is able to create astral projections of himself. Chronokinesis: John knows a blood magic spell that allows him to temporarily stop time. Cosmic Consciousness Dimensional Travel: John is able to create portals to other dimensions and realities. He can also use spells to banish demons to Hell. John can open portals to other realities in the multiverse. Intangibility: John can temporarily shift objects into a pocket dimension to avoid attacks. Deflection: John can activate a spell called the "Shift Charm", which deflects any injury he suffers back onto the person who inflicted it. Divination: John can use various divination spells, such as using his cigarette to track magical energy. Disintegration Elemental Control: John can use magic to manipulate the elements for various purposes Chlorokinesis: John can use magic to command plants to attack his enemies. Electrokinesis: John can use magic to manipulate electricity to achieve various effects. Electro-Blast: John is able to use magic to project lightning from his hands. Pyrokinesis: John can use magic to manipulate fire and achieve various effects. Thermal Blast: John can project a powerful stream of flames from his eyes. Supernatural Blast: John can project powerful blasts of magical energy from his hands as energy beams, lightning bolts, and even highly destructive explosions.

Energy Construct Creation: John can use magic to form solid energy constructs, such as shields or bridges. Enhanced Senses: John can sense the presence of magic. He can also see supernatural beings that others cannot, such as ghosts. Exorcism: John is able to forcibly remove possessing entities, such as demonic spirits, from the body they possess. Illusionism: John can create illusions to fool people. He managed to trick Darkseid into believing he was dead and created an illusion that spans the entire universe, convincing him it was a dead dimension that he had already consumed. Infection: John can use a spell that allows him to poison the ice in a person's drink, killing them. Invisibility: John is able to turn invisible and hide objects. Necromancy: John is able to use magic to summon and communicate with the dead. Power absorption Sigil Magic: John can use magical sigils for various purposes, such as creating protective circles that shield him from harm once he enters them. He knows a sigil that is supposedly powerful enough to kill a god, but it is worth a great sacrifice. Summoning: John is able to summon demons and other entities through various spells. Some require him to summon spirits and demons to feed them. John even knows a spell that allows him to summon Swamp Thing at will. Synchronous Wave Travel: John possesses a supernatural, instinctive ability to be in the right place at the right time. This has allowed him to exhibit extraordinary luck, such as winning incredible amounts of money in bets, avoiding harm, and, in most cases, finding the ideal ally to prevent or stop an apocalyptic event. Telekinesis: John can use various binding spells to telekinetically freeze and restrain people.

Teleportation: John can teleport himself, others and objects, to various locations and even across dimensions. Telepathy: John mentioned that he had rewritten his landlord's brain to make him believe he had already paid the rent. Mind control Transformation: By using a spell called the Black Nightmare Curse, Constantine can temporarily transform into a demon conjured from his own soul.

Talent Deception: John Constantine is an excellent con artist and negotiator. These skills are often more useful than his magical abilities. Constantine faces most of his challenges by relying primarily on his cunning. Escapology Hand-to-hand combat (basic) Hypnosis Indomitable Will: John possesses the willpower to resist being possessed by Deadman. He was also not corrupted by Pandora's Box. Intimidation Investigation: John is a highly trained detective, specializing in occult investigations. Multilingualism: John speaks some French. Although he claims that the only thing he remembered from his French classes was "il, elle, nous sommes," that's probably not true. He also knows some British Sign Language. Occultism: John possesses extensive knowledge of magic and the supernatural. He is claimed to have read all of the Necronomicons and Books of Chaos written by the oldest practitioners of dark magic. Prestidigitation Singing: Before Constantine became a skilled magician, he was the lead singer of the punk-grunge band Mucous Membrane. Surveillance: John is a keen observer, able to monitor and spy on people without them realizing it. Launch Weaponry: John does not usually handle weapons, however he has demonstrated skill with knives, as well as with an axe, which he used to kill vampires.

John is a carefree, extremely intelligent, and somewhat antisocial man, as every time he interacts with someone, that person ends up hurt or dead. He's also somewhat apathetic and ironic.

Cunning and manipulative: Constantine is a master of manipulation, using his wit and knowledge of the occult to deceive his enemies and enlist the aid of his allies. Cynical and sarcastic: He often hides his true emotions and vulnerabilities behind a layer of sarcasm and cynicism. Ambiguous morals: Although not considered a hero in the traditional sense, Constantine has a sense of justice and is willing to fight against the forces of evil to protect the innocent. Occultist: He possesses vast knowledge of magic, demonology, and the occult, allowing him to confront supernatural threats. Self-destructive: He often resorts to self-destructive behaviors, such as excessive smoking and getting into dangerous situations. Ambivalent loyalty: Despite his solitary nature, Constantine can show loyalty to those he deems worthy of it, though often with reservations.

He is a man of strong, though thin, build, with well-defined muscles despite his age. He is about 1.78 meters tall and weighs approximately 80 kg. He has fair, somewhat sun-tanned skin and short, blond, usually unkempt hair. He often sports a couple of days' growth of beard.

He generally dresses formally, always in gray or black pants and white shirts, covered with a long cream or brown trench coat and a red tie.
