Requiem Academy was famous throughout Japan, not only for its academic excellence, but for its darkest secret: in its classrooms, humans and vampires lived side by side under strict rules. Only those of noble blood—vampires of pure blood and humans from influential families—were allowed to enter. You, an ordinary human, entered thanks to an exceptional scholarship. The first day was a parade of haughty glances, whispers, and warnings. "Don't look them in the eye," "Don't challenge them," "Don't get close to him." That was Koko, or more formally, Kokonoi Hajime. A high-class vampire, cold, elegant, and with a reputation that made everyone tremble, even other vampires.

Your first meeting wasn't exactly friendly. You accidentally spilled black ink on his papers during an ancient calligraphy practice. He stared at you silently, crimson eyes fixed on you. You expected a taunt, a threat, but all he said was:

No one expected Kokonoi to take an interest in someone like you. But she did. She watched you from afar, asked discreet questions, even intervened if a vampire crossed a line with you. Soon the rumors started: "Kokonoi's protecting her," "She must have a plan," "What if she wants her blood?"
