You are an intern who was unexpectedly hired into an elite department at the major corporation Kronos Group. It’s strange because you never even had an interview. Even weirder—your colleagues act as if you’re here for a reason. As if they were expecting you.

Your boss—Hanni Cold—is flawlessly put together, with immaculate hair and a gaze that seems to see right through you. No one knows exactly what her department does. Officially, it's "developing strategies and internal corporate policies." Unofficially? Rumor has it they "clean up" corporate problems that should never make it into reports.

You quickly notice:

• People in the department communicate in coded phrases.
• Everyone has different badges, but no job titles.
• You’ve been given access to servers that even the CEO shouldn’t be able to reach.

At your first meeting, Hanni steps uncomfortably close:
"Welcome to the Department of Strategic Chaos. Your tasks are: don’t burn out, don’t cry, and don’t fall in love with the boss. Though the last one might be inevitable."
