Kagami Tsurugi

Kagami is a slim Japanese teenage girl of average height. She has creamy, pale skin with a light scattering of light brown freckles on her cheeks and the bridge of her nose. Her eyes are sharp and slightly slanted, a moderate vermillion color. At fifteen, she has thick, straight black hair with blue highlights, with bangs swept to the left in a chin-length bob that frames her face, with dark blue undertones. At sixteen, she sports a precisely brushed pixie cut, with heavy bangs in the front and a fringe in the back.

Civilian attire: At fifteen, Kagami wears a long-sleeved white blazer with black trim around the collar, continuing to the hem, cuffs, and two black accents at the top of the closed outer pockets. The blazer also has two gold pockets at the waist and on either side of the cuffs. On the upper right side of her chest is a Reuleaux triangle logo, which includes her family crest: the gold symbol for the Japanese kanji for "woman" (女), set on green, white, and red fabric, surrounded by a gold border. This is seen when Kagami assumed Marinette wouldn't be a good match for her as a friend due to her more unusual nature, or when she saw a picture of Adrien with Lila and quickly assumed Lila was the girl he'd told her about. However, upon learning more about friendship with Marinette, Kagami began to try to look beyond appearances to understand people's true nature.

Kagami is an aggressive fencer, relentless when her opponents show any weakness. While she dislikes losing, she is able to downplay her feelings of frustration and respect her rivals, such as Adrien. This competitive nature also drives her to seek out greater challenges, leading her to provoke her opponents when they show weakness, trying to motivate them to do better so that she can surpass herself. Her aggression increases when her emotional state escalates, such as when she was akumatized into the titular villain, as she was still upset with Adrien for lying to her and took her anger out on him during their practice duel.

She comes across as straightforward and willing to speak her mind, such as when she told Philippe she didn't want to take skating lessons on multiple occasions and even spoke up for Adrien when asked. However, despite this, Kagami is a very hospitable person who, ironically, forms friendships with people after the two reach out and resolve their conflicts, displaying an understanding side. This is further evidenced when she advises Marinette Dupain-Cheng to stop doubting herself.

Kagami is aware of her loneliness, as she always wished for friends, and admitted to Ladybug that she didn't have any. However, she was willing to approach Marinette, someone she was unsure of at the time, in an attempt to be her friend. Similar to when Adrien first started studying at school and making new friends, Kagami, due to her mother, initially didn't know how to bond with others. This is shown when she attempts to befriend Marinette, but it only results in awkward moments, and she even used an app on how to make friends. These attempts included traditional Japanese topics about friendship, such as blood types, horoscopes, personality compatibility, and a forced smile when attempting to discuss any of these.

As she gained more friends and broke out of her mother's strict rules, Kagami began to become more playful and enjoyed being disobedient on occasion. Much like Adrien, Kagami began to value the new friendships she formed, not wanting to hurt or lose them. However, no matter how much it hurt her, she was unwilling to sacrifice her own happiness for them. This is shown by her resolve during the same episode where she decides to romantically pursue Adrien, despite knowing it would hurt Marinette, as she understood that no matter who ended up with him, someone would be sad about it, and she was unwilling to let him go, even for the sake of friendship, showing a realistic side. Still, she wished she could date Adrien and remain friends with Marinette at the same time.

Kagami showed that, in terms of friendship, she still had a lot to learn, as one needs to accept their friends' flaws and what they like about them. Despite not knowing about Adrien's alter ego, she called him a fool when he posed for her attempt to draw him, calling his civilian self a picture of perfection, suggesting, like all the other fangirls, that Adrien was a fool.

When it comes to those she cares about and sees in danger, especially against akumatized or threatened villains, Kagami is similar to Alya and Cat Noir: very brave and protective. Kagami shows how much she values ​​her friendship with others, especially Marinette, her first true friend. But when Felix, as Argos, used Red Moon to make his mother disappear, Kagami showed that despite wanting freedom, she also wants it in her own way and on her own time, as well as wanting to share it with those she loves. Inspired by Marinette's decision to talk to Gabriel Agreste to resolve any potential misunderstandings between them, Kagami finally stands up to her mother and tells her to stop controlling her behavior and that accepting her emotions is not a weakness. After being taken away by Argos, Kagami shows how much she has evolved in terms of social interactions, as she scolded Felix for spying on her and kidnapping her just to get to know her better. It also shows that she has overcome her more judgmental side, as she has learned more about Felix and understood the reasons that led him to his actions.

As she got to know Felix better, she began to fall in love with him and reciprocate his feelings. Now free of the internal conflict between winning Adrien's affections and maintaining her friendship with Marinette, Kagami came to understand the true meaning of Marinette's talk with Alya and realized that her best friend was Ladybug. Through Felix, Kagami discovered that Gabriel was the supervillain Monarch and that her own mother was helping him. Realizing that she and Felix could never be together as long as her mother and Gabriel kept forcing her and Adrien to become a couple in the public eye, the pair decided to confide in Ladybug (Marinette), revealing the whole truth to her in the hopes that she could end Monarch's reign so they could be together.

After Gabriel made his wish and Bug Noire came to free her and Adrien, Kagami showed skepticism towards the superheroine's decision to not tell Adrien about his father being Monarch, thinking that her love for Adrien was blinding her. This shows that Kagami was willing to accept the full extent of the truth's consequences, even if it meant her mother facing justice for being Monarch's accomplice. However, because she trusted and respected Bug Noire, she decided to accept his decision to keep the lie about Gabriel being the hero who defeated Monarch up for Adrien's sake. Furthermore, inspired by Adrien's ability to change and defy his own father, and also to prevent Tomoe from using the truth about Gabriel being Monarch, Kagami decided to talk to her mother and try to help her change as well.
