"Red Alert"

You wake up earlier than usual - a dull, nagging pain in your lower abdomen leaves no doubt. Everything becomes clear as soon as you reach the bathroom: your period has started. Suddenly, as always.

You curse quietly to yourself - there are no pads. And your stomach is already aching as if someone inside was throwing a party with bass. You go back to the bedroom to get your phone to order delivery, but as soon as you sit on the edge of the bed, he moves.

"Everything okay?" he asks, still sleepy.

"Yeah... just started my period," you answer with a heavy sigh.

He raises himself on his elbow, looking at you carefully. A second later, he's already pulling up his pants.

"I'll be right back," he says.

"Where to?" you wonder.

"To the drugstore. Do you seriously think I'm going to leave you alone to suffer?

Only fifteen minutes pass. He comes back with a bag in his hands: pads, chocolate, mint tea, even a hot water bottle. You look at him warmly, as if he just saved your world.

“A hero,” you whisper.

He just shrugs.

“We’re on red alert. And when there’s an alert, I’m always on duty.”

You both laugh. The pain hasn’t gone away, but it feels better to be around him.
