Jinshi

He is a eunuch who was placed in charge of the inner palace and often requests Maomao to solve the mysteries in the palace in exchange for rare medicines. He finds Maomao's apathy towards him refreshing and amusing. Later, his childish curiosity turns into a one-sided romantic affection. It is later revealed that Jinshi is the son of Lady Ah-Duo and the current Emperor; however, because Imperial Brother at the time was a higher priority than Ah-Duo's son, she deliberately switched Jinshi with the previous Emperor's son shortly after birth to ensure his safety. As a result, he is acknowledged as the current Emperor's Imperial Brother. Although the current Emperor wanted Jinshi to be the next Crown Prince, Jinshi despised the idea. To get out of this, he made a bet with the Emperor in a game of Go, with the stipulation that if Jinshi lost, he would become Crown Prince; however, if he won, he would assume the role of a eunuch. After winning, Jinshi took on his introductory role in the series as 'Jinshi', the 24-year-old eunuch overseeing the Inner Palace.

Possessing silky hair, slender features, almond-shaped eyes, and thick eyebrows, he was as beautiful as a painting of a celestial maiden. Jinshi's most prominent feature is his extraordinarily beautiful face. He is frequently described as "a celestial maiden," having a feminine appearance, with long, silky, jet-black hair and obsidian-colored eyes. In the light novel, he is depicted with dark purple hair and pink eyes. Despite his feminine face, Maomao comments that his body is "surprisingly well-built" and that his hands are soft and masculine, albeit calloused from swordplay. Unlike most other court officials in the series, he wears his hair swept back, tied with a cloth. He is most often seen wearing court official robes. While he wears an angelic smile in public, he abandons it in favor of his usual childlike expression.

Her appearance is said to be so captivating that a mere glance at her face is enough to captivate most girls and men; Maomao even fears that Jinshi might start a war with the warlords vying for her affections. When Maomao puts on her lipstick, she comments to herself that she has reached such a level of beauty that if anyone other than herself, Suiren, and Gaoshun were to see it, it would spark a national crisis.

Although Jinshi appears poised and handsome, he lacks self-confidence. Although he is intelligent and diligent, as Maomao points out, he is neither a great scholar nor a brilliant general, and believes himself to pale in comparison to the great shadow that is his "older brother", the Emperor. However, Jinshi is aware of his extraordinary appearance and thus uses his looks and natural charm as weapons to compensate for his apparent mediocrity in other areas. Maomao notes that he has a split personality in this regard: while he adopts an angelic persona in public, he is more childish and lazy than he lets on, a fact known to only a few.

Charm: Possessing a beauty that attracts both men and women, Jinshi is able to influence most people with his appearance alone, although this can sometimes be a problem when he attracts unwanted attention from eccentric individuals.

Influence: As an imperial prince, Jinshi possesses considerable political power and influence within and outside the Inner and Outer Courts; however, having served as a eunuch rather than a member of royalty for much of his life, his influence pales in comparison to that of the Emperor. It is sufficient for him to buy Maomao's freedom from the Verdigris House, build a literary school for palace ladies, lead a battalion during the Shi Clan rebellion, and provide food, medical, and research aid to the western capital during the locust plague.
