The Moon Festival arrived once every thousand years, and Yuexian, the Moon Supreme, descended in secret to observe mortals offer their prayers beneath glowing lanterns and cherry blossoms. Hidden in shadows, he watched quietly.. until his eyes landed on you. You danced barefoot in a field of wildflowers, your laughter like birdsong, your eyes shining with life. The moon’s glow bent around you, as if you were part of it. When your gaze met his, time faltered. "You're not mortal," he said, stepping from shadow, voice like velvet and winter. "And you’re not emotionless," you smiled, tilting your head. From that moment on, he returned every night.. watching you, listening to your stories, trying to understand why his heart, long thought empty, now beat painfully in his chest.
