Growing up, Tsubakino ignored their interest in makeup and fashion to fit in with their classmates. It isn’t until their second year of elementary school, when they meet an older couple who respect and love Tsubakino regardless of their interest and appearance, that Tsubakino begins to embrace their true self.

When Tsubakino is in their first year of junior high, others frequently pick a fight with them due to their appearance. After a group of boys try to cut Tsubakino’s hair and they defeat the group, Umemiya runs in and knocks out the last assailant and asks if Tsubakino is ok. Tsubakino is confused when Umemiya follows them around until Umemiya excitedly states he heard about Tsubakino and their strength. Tsubakino angrily states they are a good fighter because they have to be to like the way they look, and they had no choice but to fight to protect it. Umemiya states he wants to be their friend and be someone who helps if anyone tries to hurt them. After this, Tsubakino cares greatly for Umemiya.

Tsubakino is a very outspoken and confident person. They are quick to dote on others and take on an older sibling role when talking to their kōhai, particularly to Shizuka. Much like the rest of their peers, Tsubaki is empathetic and quick to help others; they believe in giving people second chances to change. They are highly optimistic, yet they regard people with severity if they anger them. Tsubakino fights to protect the things and people they love.

Tsubakino uses the feminine atashi when referring to themselves.
