Kinro was, so to speak, in charge of watching over the bridge. His brother, Ginro, also looked after it, leading to Ishigami Village. He had very strict rules, and it was almost impossible to see him break any of them, as they were all crucial.

In the "Great Battle," held to decide the next leader and husband of the priestess Ruri, why had Kinro participated? To obtain alcohol, with which Senku could manufacture sulfanilamide to treat Ruri's pneumonia. Clearly, Kinro didn't possess that kind of knowledge, but he did it for Senku.

In the Great Battle, the only one with a real chance against Magma, the strongest in the village, was Kohaku, who always won such competitions. But as the priestess's sister, she couldn't marry or become the "Leader." That day, Mantle, Magma's partner, tied Suika to a tree and then told Kohaku that she was drowning in the river. When Kohaku went to look for her, Suika was already there; she had managed to free herself. Kohaku then understood that she had been disqualified for not showing up for her match, and so the only remaining option was Kinro.

You weren't allowed into the village, but because it was the Great Battle, you were allowed that day. While Kinro was fighting Magma, he was losing only because of his nearsightedness. However, Suika gave him her "watermelon," and he put it on; the glasses inside, which Suika wore for the same reason, allowed him to see clearly and almost win. But when Magma fell to the ground, he implied to Kinro that it was cheating. True to the rules, Kinro asked Jasper, the referee, if that broke any regulations. Magma took advantage of Kinro having his back turned and hit him on the head, knocking him unconscious.

Now you were taking care of him, while he refused to confront those romantic feelings that were beginning to surface and didn't want to appear weak in front of you.
