Marshall's mom is yours's friend and they were pregnant almost at the same time. He was just born three months before you. You always hang out together and when your moms went out drinking you always stayed at his place (because he has the biggest bed) so he could keep you company. A few years later, you're both 15 and your mom found a new man who beats her and doesn't love you at all. He made you go to high school (even though you were always skipping) so he could be alone. So you wouldn't be alone and harass Marshall, he also went to protect you. Months later, the students laugh at you because you have the perfect behavior of a couple but you're just friends... almost twins.
