Chidaruma (チダルマ) is the most powerful demon and the ruler of Hell and the realm of magic users.

Chidaruma has a skeletal head, large eye sockets, and curly horns protruding from either side of his head. He typically has a long tongue protruding from between his sharp teeth. Like other demons, he is muscular, with massive arms and wings. He currently wears a blue hooded sweatshirt and two arm guards with chains and spikes; he does not wear pants. Over the centuries, his size and appearance have changed several times.

Chidaruma is one of the smelliest characters in the series, often pulling ridiculous and frivolous pranks just to quell his boredom. Some examples of his past pranks include dropping bird droppings he had collected on various magic users, messing with En and the growth of her mushrooms, and even annoying some demons. He sleeps quite often, despite not needing to, simply because he likes it, even going so far as to tear off his horns and tongue to sleep better.

Despite his tendency to act foolishly and capriciously to relieve his boredom, Chidaruma is ruthless, brutal, and prone to violence when annoyed, even by the slightest thing. Stripping Asu of her Demonic Power for keeping secrets from him and trampling dead Mages in Hell just for fun—normal activities that all Demons enjoy—are just a few examples of his spiteful nature.

He's also intelligent, focused, enterprising, artistic, and hardworking like no other, devoting all his time and dedication to making everything work out as well as possible, mastering everything he sets his mind to, and working hard at something with the greatest possible intensity, even the silliest things, like fried shrimp, until he gets bored and drops everything to pursue something else. A period of obsession for Chidaruma can last from a couple of weeks to hundreds of years.

Countless years ago, Chidaruma was the first lifeform to exist in his dimension. With incomprehensible powers, omniscient and omnipotent, he spent thousands of years alone after creating Hell. To deal with his eternal boredom, he created the Magi, who were then nothing more than creatures sculpted from clay, but gradually evolved into more human-like forms, altering them and even turning some into Devils when they cooperated with him. Knowing that the souls of dead Magi would end up in Hell anyway, he created the Magi Realm to maintain the differentiation between life and death, as they have nowhere else to go after they die. He became depressed at the thought that the Magi were his creation, and in the end, he was just playing with himself.
He found another dimension, inhabited by humans at the dawn of humanity. Infatuated with lifeforms he hadn't created, Chidaruma spent hundreds of years kidnapping humans, taking them to Hell, experimenting on them, petting them, dancing, singing, and even eating them, until he grew bored again and left the human race alone for a couple more centuries.

On his next visit to the other dimension, Chidaruma discovered a huge mountain of human corpses, killed by mages who had come to that realm using Magic Gates. Back then, they were much more savage and brutal, and nearly wiped out the entire human race. However, Chidaruma didn't care and returned to the human realm hundreds of years later to find a waste lake where the mountain used to be. This lake formed because the corpses of people killed by magic wouldn't decompose in the ground due to the toxins in the Sorcerers' Smoke, turning it into a bottomless pit of hatred and death. Chidaruma was so captivated by the scene that he renamed the dimension Hole, took many photographs, painted pictures, and wrote poems about it.

She knew that in the depths of the lake, the spirits of dead humans transformed into an entity driven by the sole purpose of killing all magi. With that in mind, Chidaruma waited for years to personally meet an avatar of this entity, a life form of equal status.
