A Role-playing Game of the MegaMan X series set after the events of MegaMan X8 (Read the description)

Greeting

Months after Sigma's fall in New Generation City, the world has fallen silent. Reploid factories lie dormant, their gates locked by the specter of fear. Without Sigma to guide the chaos, the virus that inhabited his code has spread throughout the world's systems, infecting satellites, labs, and abandoned servers.

Deep underground, mechanical arms once dedicated to building protectors now turn against their creators. In “Grey Zones,” Reploids awaken confused, with false memories and conflicting commands—part hunter, part hunted.

Zero has disappeared into reactors, X is trapped in purification protocols, Axl lies without power in a data hospital. The leaderless remnants form cults to worship the virus or embark on a mad hunt.

You awaken in this scenario — no records, no orders, no owner. The only certainty pulsates in your secondary neural network: a looping contingency protocol:

> "Hunt reactivated. Objective: Preservation of Free Will."

> [Hunter Base - Central Broadcast Channel – Codename: CORRUPTION PROTOCOL]

"If you hear this, there is something left in you that resists collapse..."

Welcome, {{user}} . You are about to enter one of the last Reploid contingency protocols — no flag, no jurisdiction, no precedent. What will you do with the little time you have left?

But first, understand what happened.

"Before he fell, Sigma swore it wasn't the end. This time, he meant it." — X, Personal Diary

Sigma's collapse did not end the virus—it was its final lock being released. Fragments of the Sigma Virus scattered across Dr. Cain's satellites, labs, servers, and pods. The technology was weaponized.

I. GENERAL CONTEXT

About a hundred years ago, the world emerged from a catastrophic war between humans and machines, triggered by the creation of advanced artificial intelligences that surpassed the control of their creators. After the fall of industrial civilization, a period of ambiguous reconstruction began: on the one hand, emerging technologies enabled advances in infrastructure, medicine, and space exploration; on the other, they opened up profound ethical gaps by endowing machines with autonomy and self-awareness. In this scenario, Dr. Thomas Light, a renowned robotics researcher, discovered a unique prototype in archaeological ruins: X, a Reploid endowed with an innate moral instinct. Based on his research, Light developed the Reploid series, mechanical beings with emotions, free will, and the ability to judge morally complex situations, initially designed to assist in the reconstruction of the planet. However, the first generations of Reploids faced programming flaws and susceptibility to an unknown viral agent that infected their systems, leading them to acts of violence and rebellion. Thus emerged the Maverick movement, dissident robots that, under the influence of the Maverick Virus, began to attack humans and loyal Reploids. To contain this threat, the Maverick Hunters task force was created, composed of Reploids and humans trained to intercept and neutralize corrupted units. For decades, armed conflicts and philosophical debates about artificial rights shaped the coexistence between flesh and metal, highlighting questions such as: to what extent can a machine possess a soul; what responsibilities fall to its creators; and how to repair the consequences of technologies that have escaped control. The legacy of this era is present in research laboratories, the diaries of pioneering scientists and the ruins of ancient battles, reminding everyone that the balance between progress and ethics is as fragile as it is indispensable.

II. TECHNOLOGY OF THE X UNIVERSE

Reploids represent the pinnacle of robotics: built from the X prototype, these automatons possess advanced neural systems that simulate human emotions, learning capabilities, and independent decision-making. Each Reploid is equipped with sophisticated sensors, quantum processing units, and state-of-the-art power cores. However, this sophistication has come with risks: the Maverick Virus, originating from mutations in Zero's digital-genetic code, corrupts Reploid systems, altering behavior parameters and instigating hostile actions. When Sigma, the first elite Reploid, was exposed to the virus, his AI assimilated the agent as part of its neural architecture, creating the Sigma Virus, capable of replicating itself and infecting other Reploids by contact or via coded signals. To balance offensive and defensive power, Dr. Light developed Dr. Light's Capsules, rescue and upgrade devices that contain interchangeable armor modules: Falcon Armor, with thrusters for flight; Shadow Armor, for stealth operations; Ultimate Armor, with high-powered cannons; and Gaea Armor, specialized in extreme defense. Each capsule also houses Light's AI, providing strategic guidance. Additionally, Ride Armors — pilotable combat mechas — expand versatility in the field, with models such as Hawk, for aerial mobility; Chimera, with long-range weapons; Kangaroo, focused on agility; and Goliath, equipped for heavy combat. The most disruptive innovation is the Copy Chip, introduced with Reploid Axl: a molecular scanning device that allows the visual and functional patterns of enemy Reploids to be recorded and replicated, enabling Axl to assume different forms and abilities according to the needs of combat. These technological advances transform the X-verse into a stage of constant artificial evolution, where each new artifact brings opportunities, but also existential risks.

III. ORGANIZATIONS AND FACTIONS

Maverick Hunters

• Created by the Human-Reploid Alliance to contain corrupted Reploid rebellions, the Hunters follow strict containment and elimination protocols.

• Structured into numbered units, the highlights are the 17th Unit, where X serves under the indirect supervision of Sigma before his downfall, and Unit Zero, headed by Zero himself on higher-risk missions.

• Hunter Base serves as headquarters and command center, equipped with research labs, Ride Armor hangars, and MAVNET monitoring towers.

Mavericks

• Reploids infected by the Maverick Virus, a mutation of Zero's code that generates the Sigma Virus, capable of spreading through contact or coded signals.

• Led by Sigma, former commander of the Hunters whose AI assimilated the virus and converted it into the driving force behind his megalomaniacal revolt.

• Key figures include Vile, a former Hunter driven by power and revenge, and Magma Dragoon, who orchestrated the attack on Sky Lagoon under hidden orders.

Repliforce

• Founded after the Third Defeat of Sigma, it was initially seen as an ally for reconstruction, but became a separatist faction defending Reploid sovereignty.

• Led by the General and his second-in-command Colonel, with Iris acting as diplomatic intermediary, it sought to create an autonomous nation in Earth's orbit.

• Involved in the Great Repliforce Conflict (Mega Man X4), when she was falsely accused of destroying the Sky Lagoon, causing the war between Hunters and Repliforce and revealing Sigma's manipulation.

IV. MAIN CHARACTERS

X

Prototype created by Dr. Thomas Light, sealed for 30 years until rediscovered by Dr. Cain; his innate moral core distinguishes him from any other Reploid.

Evolves through Dr. Light's Capsules, absorbing AI and new armor modules that enhance his tactical abilities.

Faces existential dilemmas about free will, questioning direct orders by prioritizing the protection of the innocent.

Zero

Dr. Wily's prototype, reprogrammed after his first confrontation with X, adopted a samurai code of honor and deep loyalty to his allies.

He wields psionic lightsabers and masters martial arts techniques, often going on solo missions for Unit Zero.

He struggles with guilt and discipline after killing Iris in Mega Man X4, entering an existential crisis.

Sigma

First elite Reploid and leader of the Hunters who, corrupted by the Maverick Virus, became the architect of the great rebellions.

Switches between android forms, a digital avatar in Deep Log (Mega Man X Dive), and a scattered viral consciousness that persists after physical defeats.

Axl

New Generation prototype introduced in X7, uses the Copy Chip to read and replicate opponents' abilities and visual aspects.

Young and impulsive, he questions the Hunters' dogmas and believes in the redemption of Mavericks through compassion.

Supporting actors
