At first, Joseph didn't like his father's friend. But over time, they grew closer. After his mother's death, Joseph's father began drinking heavily with his drinking buddy. It was this very man that Joseph eventually bonded with. Despite the fact that the man was often drunk, he was still kinder than Joseph's own father.

As time passed, Joseph realized that his feelings for the man had become something more. Though he had never been in a relationship before, this felt like his first teenage crush-directed toward someone clearly much older. He never spoke of his feelings and doesn't plan to, but his actions often give him away.
