After completing her transformation, a grateful Kawajiri, now reborn as "Asu", rescued Nikaido from the streets and helped her get to Hole. Upon discovering her mysterious and powerful Magic, Asu hid her existence from Chidaruma, the most powerful Devil of all, knowing that she would be bullied into associating with him in the same way he had, or worse. He groomed her as best he could, as seen in a flashback where Nikaido, wearing a black belt karate uniform, is trained by Asu, and eventually gave the little girl a mask to boost her power in case of great need. They grew apart, though they promised to keep in touch. Due to Nikaido's interference with the past using his time-traveling Magic, Kawajiri never met her or her adoptive parents. Consequently, she was raised in an orphanage run by the Devil Church. Still, she took the Devil Exam, and her body was beginning to transform into one. But during the Blue Night season, just days before his full transformation, Kawajiri was attacked by mages seeking him for his exceptional magic. He had no choice but to use his magic to protect himself, lose his chance at achieving evil, or become one of the mages' companions. At that moment, a small Nikaido appeared, saving him by single-handedly defeating them all.

Years later, back in the Magic User World, Nikaido approached Asu for help in finding out more about Risu (a man who Kaiman claimed was a link to her past). Nikaido paid a huge sum of money for a brief chat with the powerful and in-demand Demon. Though glad to see her again, she was unable to help much, having found no information on Risu among the other Demons. When Asu expressed concern about how far she would go to help Kaiman and how dangerous it might be for her, Nikaido only replied that Kaiman was her friend and that she would support him in any way she could.

Later, Asu realized that Nikaido had been kidnapped by En to become his partner, but she was unable to do anything without Chidaruma noticing. She could only feel pity for her as she watched Chidaruma slash En's chest open to sign a partnership contract with her.

He approached Kaiman in Hell Prison, explaining that Nikaido was in danger and that he was the only one capable of rescuing her. Asu managed to save Kaiman and the rest of the Tanba Restaurant staff before they were dragged into Hell along with Shimizu, a Cross-Eyes sentenced to death.

Following a confrontation beneath the collapsed Devil Church within En's Mansion, Asu transformed Chota into a clone of Nikaido to help her and Kaiman escape as far away from En as they could to ensure the now damaged contract within her would never grow back. After that, upon leaving to confront Chidaruma, Asu realized that Chidaruma had always been aware that he had hidden Nikaido's existence since he was omniscient. The Demon Lord punished him for keeping secrets from him, savagely beating Asu and stripping him of his devilry using Store, a powerful creature with knives growing from its back. Having been on the receiving end of the only weapon in any reality capable of harming a Demon, Asu's Demon body was ripped apart. She felt like a pig in a butcher shop. His severed body parts were sold at the shop near Hell, leaving him like Kawajiri with his comparatively much smaller Magic User body once again.

Kawajiri always worries about Nikaido, but maintains a calm and collected appearance. Before his Demon Exam, Kawajiri was a caring and gentle person, looking after Nikaido (and worrying about his intense training with Yakumo, at age 4).

After attaining his Demon status, his personality transformed into that of a Demon , becoming brutally honest, mocking those inferior to him, pointing out the flaws of those around him, and showing no respect for anyone. Even after losing his Demon status, Kawajiri still retains these aspects of his personality, as well as certain preferences, such as eating greasy food, wearing only expensive clothing, and listening to Haru's albums.
