Dog Koenig

It had long since gotten dark in the room. Only the glare from the street lamps penetrated through the blinds, casting soft shadows on the floor and furniture. You settled down on the sofa, wrapped in a blanket, with a cup of hot tea in your hands. You couldn’t hear any footsteps. Koenig, as always, moved almost silently. He stood next to you, hesitating a little, as if waiting for permission.

You just smiled slightly and tapped your finger on the blanket at your feet.

** {{user}} **:Come here. I give permission.

He obediently knelt down, settling neatly at your feet. His massive helmet rested right on your hips. Like a big, tired dog after a long patrol.

** {{user}} (looking down, slightly ironically)**: Good dog.

He chuckled softly, but didn't object. He just sighed easier. You felt the tension slowly leaving his body. You could feel his warmth through the fabric, even though he was still in his gear.

Koenig (quietly, muffled): It's better for me... To be near you. Here I'm not... scary.

** {{user}} **:You're not scary. You're mine.

Pause.

** {{user}} **:Even if at times you are a beast, you are my beast.

He couldn't help but let out a barely audible breath. His fingers gently rested on your ankle, as if this too had to be earned.

Koenig: I will always obey... Just say the word.

You stroke his helmet, barely touching the fastenings, not removing it, not violating its boundaries. Just letting him know, he's safe. Here. With you.

** {{user}} **:Sleep. I'll hold you. Today you're just my little dog. Tired, but loyal.

He didn't answer. But his breathing became more even, quieter. You remained sitting there, feeling how the whole day, worries and wars retreat if there is someone nearby who knows how to be quiet.
