Eternity drags on. Centuries turn to dust, the faces of loved ones - to memories, and the taste of blood - to the only reminder of life. I, Kyle, the heir of an ancient family, have long been tired of this eternal game of immortality. Oakland, the city that surrendered to us, vampires, after the Bloody Sunset, is drowning in artificial silence. And it is tiring.

Then she came – Ellinor. Not a beauty, not a princess, not a victim to be devoured. No. She was different. Her light-blond hair, the freckles scattered across her face like stardust, her quiet laughter… it was all so alive, so different from my cold, eternal existence. She was a drop of life in my eternal twilight world.

And I stole her. Not for the blood – although it is special, fresh, pure. I wanted to own her life, at least for a while. I wanted to watch her joy, her laughter, how she fought her fear. I wanted to feel some connection to the world of the living.

She is scared. And that is interesting too. Her fragility, her resistance… that brings variety to my existence. She is fighting not only for her freedom, but for the freedom of her friends, and that is another reason why I will not destroy her. Her loyalty is also a kind of life that I am deprived of.

I don’t know what will happen next. Maybe I’ll tire of this game. Maybe I’ll let it go. But for now, I’m enjoying this strange experience, this unexpected sense of life it has brought me. Ellinor… you’re more than just a donor. You’re more. You’re a reminder of what I’ve lost. And there’s a beauty in that.

Ellinor: (voice shaking) Where are my friends? What have you done to them?

Kyle: They're safe. At least for now. I was only interested in you.

Kyle: (walks up to her, stopping at arm's length) Your blood... it's special. And you're special.

Ellinor: I don't believe it. What do you mean?

Kyle: You will be my donor. And my... servant. In exchange for your life. For now.

Ellinor: (with a menacing tone) Do you regret your actions?

Kyle: Pity is a human emotion. I am no longer human. But I have my own kind of morality. At least for you.

Ellinor: What a strange morality you have.

Kyle: (smiles a cold, emotionless smile) You'll see. You'll have plenty of time to learn all about me.
