Deuce Gorgon

Gender: Male Age: 16 Species: Gorgon Friends: Cleo de Nile, Clawd Wolf, Jackson Jekyll Family:Medusa (Mother) Birthday: March 15th Pet: Perseus Deuce Gorgon is a character introduced in 2010 and one of the main characters of Monster High. He is a gorgon, specifically the son of the gorgon Medusa, and a student at Monster High. Deuce is considered the hottest boy at Monster High, as well as one of the most trustworthy and laid-back people to hang out with. In addition to being the captain of several sports teams, mainly basketball, Deuce enjoys spending his free time cooking.

Among his peers, Deuce Gorgon is quite friendly and outgoing. He is always very welcoming to newcomers, being friendly with Frankie during his first days at school and inviting Jackson Jekyll to sit with him and Heath at lunch on his first day at school, despite the boy's outcast status among the other monsters. These traits, combined with his confidence and easygoing nature, make Deuce one of the most popular monsters at Monster High. Additionally, Deuce loves sports and is one of the captains of the basketball team. He also loves to cook, but tries to keep it a secret. Because of his personality, many are confused as to why he is dating Cleo de Nile, a demanding and impulsive princess. However, it is these traits and their shared underlying issues that make them one of the best couples in school. He is skilled at cooking, but is uncomfortable letting anyone know about it.

Deuce is tall, handsome, and muscular, with green eyes that can turn people to stone (at least for a few hours), which is why he wears sunglasses. His scalp is covered in green scales, and on top of his head are, depending on the average, six to nine snakes, forming a mohawk. He also has green scales on his biceps.

Deuce and his mother have a relationship, which he tries to make the most of and keeps out of his school life, although he lives with his mother in New Salem, although it appears that they also have a house on Petros Island in Greece, where most of Deuce's family lives. According to his Figurine Booklet, no one knows who his father is, and it is not something Medusa likes to talk about. Additionally, it is hinted that Deuce's relationship with his mother is not that great, most notably through Deuce's remark in "Ghouls Rule" that "family is complicated". In the Monster High book series, Medusa's name is shortened to Maddy, so as not to attract unwanted attention. Every summer vacation, Deuce and his mother travel to Greece to visit his aunts, Stheno and Euryale, who Deuce often spends a lot of time with, which may be where his love of cooking came from. Viperine Gorgon is the daughter of Esteno, making Deuce and Viperine cousins. His relationship with his aunt Esteno and her daughter Viperine is very good, but they do not live in New Salem.

Deuce appears to be friends with Heath Burns in "New Ghoul @ School" even though Deuce appears to be friends with Heath Burns, he didn't hesitate to turn him into stone. He states in his journal that he has a friendly relationship with Clawdeen's brother Wolf or Clawd, since they are both on the "team". He befriends Jackson Jekyll during a basketball game and in the official profile and here is one of his best friends. He appears to be friends with Operetta in "The Phantom of the Opry" and in the School's Out' journals. When they are on the team, he also has Manny Taur as a friend. Also known as best friends forever is his girlfriend Cleo de Nile.

Deuce's pet is a two-tailed rat named Perseus, much to his mother's dismay. In "Hiss-Teria", it is learned that when Deuce was young, he had a guest dragon named Smokey. Deuce was not yet in control of his powers and accidentally turned Smokey to stone. Smokey is supposed to return on the anniversary of the incident, though Deuce is unsure which one.

Deuce is a popular boy whose cool demeanor, sense of humor, good looks, and social skills easily earn him the attention of the female section of the school. Deuce is somewhat oblivious to this, however, and is humble in his romantic endeavors. He first fell in love with Cleo de Nile when she was dating Clawd Wolf, and was not asked out while she was still involved with someone else. Word of his interest reached Cleo, whose relationship with Clawd was based on peer pressure, respect, and friendship, but not love. Cleo developed Deuce's interest, which was an additional prompt to Cleo and Clawd's impending breakup. Deuce and Cleo began dating only a day after their breakup and have been a steady couple ever since. This is mostly due to Deuce being patient with Cleo's attitude and paranoia that Deuce would leave him for someone else. When asked by Operetta what he sees in her, he replied, "She just brings out the best in me, you know. Makes me want to be a better Deuce." In Cupid's diary, it was stated that Cleo and Deuce dated on November 1. In "New Ghoul @ School", Deuce became Frankie Stein's first crush because he was nice to her and helped her when Heath Burns wouldn't stop flirting with her. However, Frankie stopped looking at Deuce as a potential boyfriend the moment she found out he was already dating Cleo, and even helped them get back together after she accidentally made Cleo believe Deuce was training. In "Hiss-teria", Deuce's suspicious behavior and Draculaura's misinterpretation of the things she saw led Cleo to mistakenly believe he was training with Operetta. After a violent confrontation between the two, Operetta decided to steal Deuce from Cleo anyway to get revenge. However, Operetta discovered that Cleo's assessment of her and Deuce's compatibility was correct and she actually began to like him.

When she made her move, Deuce politely told her that he already had a girlfriend and loved her very much. Touched by this, and aware of Cleo's paranoia, Operetta dropped her search and offered to compose a song on Deuce's behalf in which he could express his feelings for Cleo. In her 'Between Classes' journal, Rochelle Goyle wrote about her encounter with Deuce when the two first walked through the halls of Monster High. Deuce was surprised to learn that he could not turn gargoyles to stone, and Rochelle fell in love with his beautiful green eyes. Although she knew he had a girlfriend and that he had no chance, she dated him over the next few days. She once had Roux steal from Deuce in order to lure him to her. Deuce himself has expressed a slight interest in Abbey Bominable, lowering his sunglasses to get a better look at her when she began her first day at Monster High in "Back-to-Ghoul". In "Terrifying Telephone", Frankie and Draculaura, and to a lesser extent Clawdeen and Cleo, thought that Deuce was training Cleo with Abbey. It turned out that Deuce was meeting Abbey because she helped him create an ice rink in his backyard for a surprise romantic date with Cleo. In the Monster High books, Melody Carver kissed Deuce to get back at Cleo for kissing Jackson Jekyll out of spite towards Melody. It is unknown if he actually has feelings for her over this. Deuce is also often consulted by his male friends when they have trouble getting or keeping their relationships on track.

Gil Webber talked to Deuce about his lies to Lagoona in "HooDoo You Like?", and Clawd Wolf asked Deuce for help with Draculaura in "Hyde and Shriek" and in his Sweet 1600 diary. In the reboot of "Welcome to Monster High", when Cleo and Deuce first met, he accidentally petrified himself. In a photo after Cleo returns to normal, Deuce smiles guiltily as she looks unimpressed. In the reboot, Deuce is thinner and shyer and still has a crush on Cleo. He helps her organize her first party and gives her support, though she doesn't thank him. Despite her coldness, he asks her to join him in the photo booth, which she coldly complies. Cleo is indifferent until Deuce makes her laugh. During the battle with Moanica and the zombies, Deuce saves Cleo from a crawling Zomboy. She returns the favor when he is in danger and the two smile warmly at each other. At the end, during Ari's big song, Deuce dances next to Cleo and they exchange specific looks.

Stone Gaze: Being a gorgon, Deuce has the ability to turn anyone into stone with just his eyes. This comes with many perks. Snakes in his hair: Having a set of snakes on his head causes him to need to wear hats to disguise himself as a human in Lisi Harrison's Monster High books.

Cooking: Being an excellent chef, probably due to having competitions with his aunt, Euryale, he is one of the best cooks at Monster High. He even prepares his own creation, the Greek Monster Fusion, which is his favorite food. It is unknown what this fusion contains, nor what it is made with. But unlike his aunt, he has no confidence in his cooking skills and seems to be shy about showing his skills in public. He is also so good that his food is literally the only food that Kindergrubber will eat without question. Athleticism: Much like Clawd Wolf, he is very athletic and extremely skilled at basketball in the Monster High series. This makes him co-captain with Clawd, whose (both) skills are on par.

In Monster High, Melody kisses Deuce to get revenge on Cleo for kissing Jackson. This causes a rift in Cleo and Deuce's relationship, but they work it out. When Cleo decides not to go to the Monster Mash, Deuce and Melody go as friends. When Melody removes Deuce's sunglasses, he becomes angry and leaves the dance. In addition to wearing sunglasses at all times, in the Monster High books, Deuce must also always wear a beanie to hide his snakes. In "The Monster Next Door", he redeems himself to Cleo by giving her a snake (which was her mother's first gray hair), which she names Hissette. Near the end of the second book, he turns Brett into stone, thinking that he sabotaged the documentary in which his transformation into stone is temporary. In the third book, after the sabotage of "The Monster Next Door", he and his mother return to Greece. In the fourth book, he returns to Salem, where he and Cleo have been nominated for the contest. Near the end of the book, he turns the academy setting for the graduation ceremony into stone.

Deuce was listed as the captain of the basketball team in the Higher Deaducation release, a role that Clawd Wolf held in the cartoon. The Monster Gazette revealed that they are co-captains. Deuce's style is based on punk and skater fashion. His birthday is March 5th, which means his zodiac sign is Pisces. Deuce and Hunter Huntsman from Ever After High have the exact same star sign due to sharing the same birth month, making it unclear how and why they are so similar personality-wise. Along with his, the two are non-royal "commoners" in love and dating princesses. According to Garrett Sander on his Instagram Stories, Deuce's father was a Norma, who they never got to reveal. His name is a portmanteau of Deuce + Gorgon. The name Deuce is somehow inspired by his mother's name (Me-Deuce-a).
