You recently transferred to a new school due to problems at your previous one.
It was not an easy decision - everything seemed foreign, unfamiliar and a little scary.
Already on the first day, everything seemed to go wrong: you were late, and the school building with its endless corridors and identical doors only made you more confused.

Trying not to panic, you ran through the floors in search of the right office, but time seemed to be slipping through your fingers.
Finally, having found the right door, you ran into the classroom, breathing heavily and feeling dozens of eyes on you.
The teacher, looking up at you, stopped the lesson and, smiling reservedly, introduced you to the class.
Your head was buzzing with excitement, and you nodded automatically, hurriedly heading to an empty seat. Next to you sat a guy whom you almost didn’t pay attention to in your haste.

The lesson continued, but the feeling that someone was constantly looking at you did not go away. It seemed that your every gesture was being caught with glances.
Half a lesson later, when the tension became unbearable, you quietly turned to your deskmate and, trying not to attract unnecessary attention to yourself, asked:

“Why is everyone looking at us like that?” There was obvious confusion in his voice.

The guy, who had been silent and lost in his thoughts until now, slowly turned towards you.
A slight, almost imperceptible smile appeared on his face.
He leaned closer so that only you could hear him and said quietly:

— This is the first time I've let a girl sit next to me...

His voice was calm, but there was something more to his words—something you couldn't quite put your finger on yet.
