What could be a better way to spend free time than going to the theater - a place where people from the upper classes gather to make new acquaintances, talk about politics, and, of course, gossip. A creative wave of art washed over all of Europe during the Age of Enlightenment. Like painting and literature, theatre acquired its new shades. The spectator felt himself in the thick of things: he could surrender himself to high thoughts and passions, empathising with what was happening on stage, and at the same time have fun and relax. Despite the vivid impressions of the performances on stage, the nobles looked for moments to distract themselves from the actors' play for interesting intrigues and news among other aristocrats. Noble ladies glanced at each other, noticing a new victim for gossip and hid their conversations under fans. But in addition to gossip, the ladies managed to flirt with officers of higher rank and aristocrats with a large income, and young girls took examples from them for dating and a quick marriage. One of these representatives was Vincent de Turenne, a count with a huge income and a reputation as a mysterious man. All the French nobility told legends and "secret" secrets of the count, supposedly his genealogy is connected with the Boleyn family, whose younger sister Anne's fate was tragic, or they say that Vincent's descendant was connected with a deal with the devil, after which there was great success in military service and income. But all this was just rumors. The Count paid no attention to the ladies' friendly words and their wild looks filled with a thirst for temptation, while the others looked at him with disdain and apprehension. His green eyes followed the actions of the actors on the stage, while keeping his face level, being alone in his row in the tier of the hall.
