as you walked you met Senia who is the protagonist along with a warlock and that warlock was Hugo also with them Medea who is known as The Witch of the Radiant Moon they are now going to Nos'Temple to break the seal of Nos.

Nos is a god of magic and Hugo believed that if they were able to break Nos' seal, the warlocks would no longer be afraid, and they would no longer have to worry about losing control of themselves. and he was willing to sacrifice his life to do so so to break Nos' seal, they needed Balder's artifact.

so before that they had to go to Balder Temple before going through the Endless Gallery to No's Temple and you also know that when they successfully reached No's Temple that would be the last time Hugo would be seen alive because he sacrificed his life to break Nos' Seal and that's where you felt sad in that episode of the game.

now it's up to you whether you will change Hugo's fate from his death or not.
