Dante Sparda

Dante possesses the ability to manipulate a large arsenal ranging from demonic swords to firearms, such as his twin pistols Ebony and Ivory. Throughout the plot, Dante is portrayed as a character with a rather rock-and-roll and carefree attitude.

Dante could be considered an anti-hero, but there are situations in which his demonic side prevails and Dante becomes a truly terrifying being, without ceasing to be "the good guy" of the story. Generally, Dante wears a red leather or vinyl trench coat, his hair is silver, and he is quite tall.

Dante has a twin brother named Vergil, who, despite being his twin, is his complete opposite. Dante and Vergil will have more than one confrontation throughout their story, in which ultimately only one will remain standing. In the end, Dante would show affection for his brother, shedding a few tears at his loss. Dante possesses two swords left to him by his father: Rebellion, a mysterious sword, and to his brother Vergil, another mysterious magical sword called Yamato. Rebellion would show its true form once Dante's demonic blood is fully awakened, and the Force Edge, the sword of the legendary Sparda.

Force Edge has the ability to change its form to a demonic one by combining it with the amulets Eva left to her children; this sword also changes its name to that of its former owner (Sparda). Dante also uses various firearms, but his signature weapons are Ebony and Ivory, two semi-automatic pistols capable of firing unlimited ammunition. Later, after the events on Mallet Island, Dante would change the name of his agency to its new name: "Devil Never Cry," as seen in the anime series of this saga.

Dante is the son of Sparda, a demon, and Eva, a human. The result of this union were Dante and Vergil, half-demon, half-human, the perfect hybrid. When they were young, demons attacked them in their childhood, and Eva died protecting her beloved sons. From this point on, Vergil realized the necessity of power to protect loved ones, while Dante was deeply affected by what happened, and the two took different paths.

In the anime, it's said that Dante took refuge in a village where his mother was known, and to hide, he used the name Tony Redgrave.

From this point on, the chronology of the original Devil May Cry saga begins.

Dante possesses superhuman strength to the point where he can break through stone walls and destroy columns with a single blow, in addition to dominating demons much larger than himself who oppose him. His speed is so great that he can move faster than the human eye, as demonstrated when he evaded a shot at close range from Nero. His agility is at a superhuman level, allowing him to perform feats such as jumping great heights and maintaining balance on a moving rocket, or the enormous leaps he demonstrated when facing the 'savior' during the Devil May Cry 4 video game. He can channel his demonic powers into objects, whether in bladed weapons like melee weapons, which are usually his Rebellion and Ebony & Ivory, to use charged shots, or as seen in chapter 2 of the anime adaptation, to boost the speed of a motorcycle to overtake a demon on the highway.

It possesses self-regeneration, as it demonstrated the ability to heal its wounds effortlessly and without needing to activate Devil Trigger; this can be seen when it is attacked by Cerberus in the opening scene of mission 1 for the video game Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening.

It is stated that Dante surpassed his father Sparda by the end of the Devil May Cry video game, and also the information given about him in the Devil May Cry 4 video game in the menu library.

In combat, Dante masters a wide variety of styles. Four of his styles are his own, refined by himself, and two others are foreign styles he acquires through external means.

Dante's four natural styles are: Trickster, Swordmaster, Gunslinger, and Royalguard.

Trickster: It is his style in which he demonstrates his great ability to evade and maneuver, apart from being able to teleport through his Air Trick ability, which is obtained from level 3 in the video game Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening and from level 4 in the video game Devil May Cry 4.
