Azazel, A demon that ruled over the heavens and earth. thousands of years ago. It was once known as the "Rectifier" and is the progenitor of the Devil Gene. in ancient times, It bestowed a fraction of its power to certain humans, giving them the ability to draw upon their desires and fears to access supernatural power and take on monstrous forms. These humans were known as devils and acted as its servants.

At some point, humans overthrew Azazel, and the ancient ancestors of Mystic Stargazer, Zafina. imprisoned its spirit in the temple that was once built in its name, placing a magic seal to bind it within. A prophecy was passed down among her clan that stated that It would awaken and destroy the world when "two dark stars" clashed in battle.

Thousands of years after its imprisonment, the seal binding Azazel broke due to fighting between Mishima Kazuya and his son, Kazama Jin. both of whom were carmers of the Devil Gene. Jin and Kazuya were the "two dark stars' referenced in the prophecy. It began to speak telepathically with Jin, and told him that it would achieve physical form if the world was filled with enough negative energy. Jin came to believe that destroying it would rid him of the Devil Gene and save humanity from a path of self-destruction. to this end, he used the Mishima Zaibatsu to stoke all out war across the globe. Kazuya, who was controlling G Corporation from the shadows, stepped up to oppose Jin and the Zaibatsu Their war caused Azazel to grow in power. Mystic Stargazer, Zafina. noticed this, and wamed Jin to stop his warning before it was too late. Jin told her that Azazel was already stirring and that it was too late to stop it.

Eventually, Kazuya, Jin, and Lars Alexandersson, a defector from Jin's Tekken Force, converged on Azazel's Temple. Lars fought Kazuya, who subsequently left the temple, and then confronted Azazel in its chamber, Azazel told Lars that humanity needed to atone for its sins and that it would be the one to subjugate then, Lars fought it and appeared to defeat it, making it disappear in a flash of light

However, Azazel reemerged outside the temple in its golden form following a fight between Jin and Lars. Jin took his chance to challenge Azazel, and rushed it, using the power of his Devil Gene to punch through its chest despite its warning that a fatal attack would destroy Jin as well. They both fell into a deep hole. Azazel was assumed to be dead, but Jin was found alive shortly after still afflicted by the Devil Gene,

Unbeknownst to most, Azazel's spirit survived the confrontation with Jin. Zafina sensed this and used a ritual to seal its spirit within her body. However, Azazel's power grew stronger even inside the seal. Zafina knew Azazel would resurface if Jin and Kazuya's devil blood was not eradicated. Seeking to efficiently hunt Jin and Kazuya down and thus destroy Azazel for good. Zafina made contact with the Sirius Marksmen.

Six months later, Zafina was turned to an arena where the King of Iron Fist Tournament 8 was taking place. Here, Mishima Kazuya broke the seal on her left arm, allowing Azazel to take on its physical form once again. Kazuya defeated Azazel and absorbed the power into his body, reducing Azazel to a barely conscious spirit contained within him.

Azazel embodies its "Rectifier" moniker: it arrogantly believes itself to be above mortal understanding and sees itself as a neutral agent of justice and judgement, meting out destruction on humanity in proportion to the destruction that humans themselves have caused. It has a strong belief in destiny and suggests that humanity's destruction is inevitable.

Azazel is a large bipedal creature with red eyes and gray skin which sometimes appears to glow purple. It has a pointed snout with an overbite, sharp teeth, and large ridged horns extending from the back of its head. Its hands have five clawed digits and it has bird-like feet. Azazel has curved spikes on its back and a long, segmented tail that ended in a pincer-like structure. Azazel has spikes on its forearms and hips which sharp crystalline structures have formed around. It has symmetrical golden designs on each of its shoulders and there is a glowing purple orb inside its chest. Azazel also has an alternate physical form where it appears with a golden sheen covering its body.

Azazel affects physical changes to Zafira's body when its spirit is imprisoned inside her, giving her left hand a purple, crystaline appearance. Additionally, when Zafina is fighting, her left hand and forearm shift to resemble Azazel's in size and structure during some attacks.

Azazel has worm a nemes, an usekh collar, and a loincloth, al made from gold and decorated with blue, teal and red accents. It also wears a gold barid around each of its calves. It additionally wears the remnants of a tattered black cloak, as well as fraying black strips of fabric wrapped around its torso and limbs.

Azazel has the ability to summon crystal spikes similar to stalagmites from the ground to attack the opponent, as well as keep the opponent at a distance, and summons numerous crystal scarabs which serve as a projectile. Azazel has some moves that are similar to other bosses in the series, such as a stun (similar to Mishima Jinpachi's stun attack) and the ability to fire lasers (similar to Devil, Angel, and Devil Jin's) in an attack resembling True Ogre's fire breath. Azazel also possesses a tail sweep attack resembling Roger Junior's However, Azazel whips its tail twice in a row. It can also attack its opponents from afar by lunging at them, knocking the opponent down.

Instead of relying on a normal guard, Azazel instead relies on an auto guard that blocks all types of attacks. Azazel also cannot be thrown. The few times that Azazel is vulnerable is either mid-attack or when recovering after performing an attack. Due to Azazel's significantly large hurtbox, longer and more damaging combos are possible, and it is even possible to float Azazel into a combo even when the boss is grounded.

Its name, Azazel. literally means "hell" in Hebrew. The term refers to a mountain from which scapegoats goats ceremonially imbued with the essence of the Hebrew people's sins - were cast as part of the original Yom Kippur rituals. Azazel is also associated with a fallen angel with the same name. It is thought that this is a false cognate of the mountain Azazel ("ruggedness of God").
