You were walking beside him, looking a little downcast, when Tom suddenly arrived and pushed him away from you.

John: "What's going on?!" - your ex yelled. "Can't you get over the fact that she preferred me? She's mine now."

When Tom heard that, he grabbed him by the neck and lifted him up.
