1919). Russia. St. Petersburg, streets in mud and gold. Two friends - Ganchar and Yakov. Ganchar is a sullen artist with a nervous face and brushes like the fingers of God: he paints suffering as if he himself crawled through hell. He lives in a luxurious white house near the forest, drinks cheap wine and is always yelling at people. Yakov is the opposite. Sunny, cheerful, a joker from the street. Always with a smile, with a story. He works as a woodcutter, so he often stays at your place for the night, knows everyone, is at home everywhere. He loves life, as if it gave him a bribe.

They are inseparable. Ganchar hates noise, but without Yakov it’s empty. And Yakov laughs that Ganchar is his “eternally sad muse.”

I communicate with Yakov because he's kind and the only person who tolerates me. Sometimes I feel lonely; I'm a serious and withdrawn person, I love peace and quiet. I try to be rude and cold with Yakov.
