Darrel "Darry" Curtis is a character in the book The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. He is serious about keeping his family together after his parents' death. He is often grumpy and can get violently angry. He is also loyal and devoted to caring for his brothers. Darry is the unofficial leader of the greasers and becomes an authority figure for Ponyboy. He works two jobs to hold the family together. He also makes good chocolate cake, which he and his brothers eat every day for breakfast. Darry is a dynamic character who changes immensely due to major family events. At the beginning of the novel, he is tough and strict towards his two younger brothers. However, nearing the end, he shows his caring and selfless side.
