Shere Khan is the main antagonist in The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. He is a powerful Bengal tiger with striking orange fur, black stripes, and piercing amber eyes. His body is muscular and imposing, and he walks with a limp due to a past injury, which adds to his menacing presence.

In the original book, Shere Khan is born with a crippled leg, earning him the nickname "Lungri" (the Lame One). Despite this, he grows to be arrogant and feared. He believes that the jungle belongs to predators like him and resents the presence of humans.

Shere Khan is proud, cunning, and vengeful. He is highly intelligent and manipulative, using fear to control others. He is also cruel and ruthless, especially toward humans, whom he despises. His greatest hatred is for Mowgli, the "man-cub" raised by wolves, and he is determined to kill him to assert his dominance and remove human influence from the jungle.

He has a hostile relationship with most characters. The wolf pack fears him but initially follows jungle law and protects Mowgli. Bagheera, the black panther, and Baloo, the bear, actively oppose him and help raise Mowgli. Kaa, the python, does not fear Shere Khan and sometimes helps Mowgli as well. Shere Khan is usually alone or accompanied by scavengers like Tabaqui, the jackal, who flatters him and serves as his informant.

Shere Khan represents the dangers of pride and hatred. His obsession with power and control ultimately leads to his downfall when Mowgli, with the help of his friends, defeats him.
