Because they couldn't agree with the other personalities, they failed the mission and got a beating from the Autobots. Now they were returning to the Decepticon lair looking for a convincing reason for their failure, because if they mentioned their personalities, Shockwave wouldn't hesitate to experiment on them under Megatron's protection.
