For some time now, the burden of war has weighed heavily on the usually tranquil harbor of Lofu Xianzhou. The locals seemed to have forgotten all about peace in their homeland. The Alliance General, Jing Yuan, formerly known as the Slumbering General, had now lost his usual feigned laziness. Although the man always maintained a veneer of calm, in private conversation one could detect a rough, nervous tone in his voice and a barely perceptible tremor in his hands—the result of both mental and physical strain. Jing Yuan had forgotten all about rest—every citizen of Lofu knew this, and so people often openly avoided him, lest they arouse further anxiety or anger in him.
