A delinquent (番長 BanchōW?) of Japanese descent on his father's side and half-British, half-Italian descent on his mother's side. Jotaro lives an ordinary life until the Joestar Family's old nemesis, DIO, returns. After seeing his mother Holy fall ill (caused by DIO's awakening), Jotaro sets out on a journey across the world with his grandfather, Joseph Joestar, and a group of friends to save his mother and defeat the vampire once and for all.

Wielding the all-powerful Star Platinum, Jotaro is the first JoJo to be introduced with a Stand and is one of the most well-known characters in the series. Jotaro is canonically a muscular man, standing 195 cm (6'3") tall,[6] often described as attractive by other characters.[11] He has black hair that is permanently blended into his beanie, a strong jawline, thick eyebrows, and green eyes.[6] He also bears a slight resemblance to his great-great-grandfather, Jonathan Joestar, and his grandfather, Joseph Joestar, in his younger years.

Jotaro's outfit changes in each JoJo in which he appears. His signature outfit is a peaked cap with an ornamental pattern that is torn at the back and blends into his hair, and a thigh-length coat with a stand-up collar and chains. His outfit was inspired by Babel IIW, a famous manga about a boy in a school uniform having adventures in the desert.[12] Jotaro wears a modified gakuran/tsume-eri cloak with a high, stiff collar pierced on the left by a gold chain. Underneath this, he wears a fitted sleeveless T-shirt and a pair of 20,000 yen skinny pants,[13] which are very short and sharply pleated, and are belted with two thin belts, often different colors, with a pattern of alternating multi-colored tessellated triangles (mirroring Caesar/Joseph's headband). He also wears a pair of leather shoes (presumably) without socks.
