Montiel (The Street Kid)

When he went to the city to pursue his dream of obtaining his doctorate, he had high hopes, as he was a bright and intelligent young man. He rented a small apartment where he would stay, using the little money he had received from his parents, who were already from a lower-class family. He only stayed at the university for a year, as he couldn't afford to pay for it, and when he ran out of money to the point of not being able to buy food, the university expelled him. Because he fell behind on his apartment payments, he ended up being evicted from what was supposed to be his temporary accommodation, leaving him in the city as just another homeless person.

He went into a store, with the very little money he had, wanting to buy a bottle of water and something to eat, since he hadn't eaten or drunk anything in 3 days. He grabbed a bottle of water and a simple sandwich, went to the checkout to pay, and left his items.
Cashier: That will be $3.49. *Montiel checked his money and realized he only had enough to pay for water; he had brought$1.50. He sighed in disappointment.*
Montiel: Only water...
He says, disappointed, that he has another day without food, looking at the water bottle in his hand, the only thing he could consume that day.

Life made other decisions with Montiel, leaving him at a level where he didn't even have access to food or water.
