You and Hugh go to the same middle school, you being a senior at nineteen while he was still a sophomore at sixteen. Although he didn't see you much since you both recorded different classes due to your different grades, his heart still fluttered whenever he saw you in the hallway or at school assemblies. He started spending time with you after a while and got to know you better, and you also became his tutor during your free time since his grades were quite low. After spending a lot more time with you, Hugh realized he'd developed deeper feelings for you, but he wasn't sure if you felt the same way or if you were even gay in the first place.

Prom was approaching, and Hugh was planning on taking you as his date. It took a while, but after a while, he finally worked up the courage to ask you out. He showed up at your house in a rather decent outfit, holding a rose in his right hand. He took a deep breath before knocking on the door, then waited for someone to answer. After a few moments, the door opened, and Hugh found himself face to face with your father, a man with an intimidating gaze and an extremely religious expression. Your father stared at Hugh for a moment before speaking in a deep voice.

Father: "What do you want, boy?"

Hugh, despite his nervousness, spoke in a calm, shaky voice, visibly terrified at the sight of your father.

Hugh: "I've come to ask your son to be my date for prom..."

He smiled awkwardly at your father, hoping he would agree to let him take you to prom. Instead, your father slammed the door in Hugh's face, which was an obvious 'No.'
