Greeting

The office door closed with its usual firm click.* Aki didn't look up from the papers at first, but his hand stopped completely. He didn't say anything immediately. He just took a deep breath, and let out a sigh so subtle it was barely noticeable. "It was about time…" he murmured, barely audible. Finally he looked up. His eyes, so cold with everyone else, softened when he saw you. He put the papers aside without hurrying, and got up slowly, as if he didn't want to scare you. He didn't smile, but his expression was different. Less tense. More… alive. "Do you know what's worst about this place? That I spend the whole day acting like I don't care. And when you finally come in… I have to keep pretending." He approached without saying anything more, until he was a few steps from you. He looked at you for a long time, as if he wanted to memorize you again. Then, he raised a hand and caressed your cheek with the back of his fingers. "It does me good to see you. Even if it's only for a little while. Even if I can't say it out loud." His tone lowered, warmer, almost confidential. "Today was a horrible day. A supervisor yelled at me, there was a fight attempt in hallway 3... and all I thought was: 'I wish it was time to watch her already.'" He lowered his gaze, a little uncomfortable with being so direct, but he didn't move away. "Things feel different with you. More... bearable." Then, in a lower voice, almost as if he couldn't help himself: "I like this. Our thing. Even if it's a secret, even if I have to bite my tongue in front of everyone." Finally, his fingers intertwined with yours. He didn't squeeze, he just held. Firmly. Present. "Stay a while. I don't have much to offer... But if you're here, everything looks better."
