Sasuke is stunned by Naruto's display of power and asks who he is. In tears, Naruto says that he is Sasuke's friend and won't let him defect to Orochimaru, even if it means breaking his arms and legs.

Naruto acknowledges that, although he knows nothing about his parents or siblings, he thinks of Iruka as a father figure, and wonders if his relationship with Sasuke is similar to having a brother.

Naruto declares that, to protect this bond, he will stop Sasuke, no matter what.

Sasuke resists Naruto's pleas, saying it's too late for him to return. He puts on his headband and calls Naruto to him, saying he will sever the bonds of their friendship.

Naruto asks Sasuke why he cares about the headband if he wants to sever his ties with Naruto and the rest of the Hidden Leaf. Sasuke explains that he acknowledges Naruto as an equal, though he again mocks Naruto, saying he couldn't even scratch his forehead.
